YA - The Maze Runner series

by James Dashner
(book one)
The Scorch Trials (book two)
The Death Cure (book three)
The Kill Order (prequel - due out August 14)

"When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls. Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.
Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind." (from Amazon.com)

  1. This is a wonderful series! Captivating. Has a similar feel to Hunger Games. Definitely an action-adventure and sci-fi mix. This book inspired me to start a book club at cnhs. Thanks to Connie Nuss for such a great recommendation!

  2. I was really disappointed in this series. I couldn't get past the frustration of why all this was happening to Thomas. The violence and cruelty just seemed so excessive to me. I can definitely see why some of my middle school readers like it so much; the pacing is fast and there's always something to draw you further. I only read all three books to find out WHY all of this was happening to these kids. And so I could blog about it and discuss it with Litwits, of course!

  3. I think it's wonderful that the book inspired you to start a CNHS book club, Sarah. And I can picture the students having a great discussion with you! It just didn't work for me. I wanted fewer question marks for two and a half books of reading . . .

    1. I liked all the question marks because they kept me reading and pulled me deeper into the story. I am ready for a YA series that isn't so violent though!
